NBCUniversal partnered with us to create an innovative eCommerce platform that bridges physical merchandise and digital collectibles. The objective was to transform officially licensed Universal Monsters products into interactive experiences using NFC technology and blockchain-powered NFTs.
The platform enables customers to purchase premium merchandise, scan embedded NFC chips using any smartphone, and instantly unlock exclusive NFTs without requiring a dedicated mobile application.
Beyond selling collectibles, the solution protects Universal Monsters intellectual property through secure NFT minting, authenticated ownership verification, and automated royalty management on secondary marketplace transactions.

The Challenge
Each physical product needed to securely verify authenticity before revealing its associated NFT. The platform had to prevent counterfeit merchandise while enabling customers to claim digital collectibles through a simple smartphone scan without requiring a mobile application.
Universal Monsters' intellectual property required strict control over NFT creation and ownership. The solution needed to prevent unauthorized minting, secure digital assets, and automatically enforce creator royalties across secondary marketplace transactions.
Supporting both traditional payment methods and cryptocurrency introduced significant complexity. The platform needed to process credit cards, MetaMask, and ETH payments while ensuring secure order validation before NFT minting.

Architecture
The Universal Monsters platform was designed as a secure, scalable Web3 commerce ecosystem that seamlessly connects physical merchandise, blockchain infrastructure, and digital collectibles. The architecture enables customers to purchase official merchandise, authenticate products through embedded NFC technology, and securely claim NFTs using Polygon blockchain.
Rather than tightly coupling business logic with blockchain services, the platform adopts a modular microservices architecture. Dedicated services manage product catalogs, NFT minting, order processing, payment verification, wallet authentication, and customer support independently, enabling faster deployments and easier scalability.
Database Architecture
MongoDB was selected for its flexible document model, enabling efficient management of products, orders, users, wallet addresses, and NFT metadata. Combined with IPFS for decentralized asset storage and Polygon blockchain for ownership verification, the platform delivers secure, scalable, and tamper-proof digital commerce.
